HBO Announces Return Date for The Last of Us Following Neil Druckmann’s Departure
July 20, 2025  |  Meha

HBO has officially confirmed the return date for the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us, following the departure of co-creator Neil Druckmann from the production. The series, based on the critically acclaimed video game franchise, will resume filming later this year, with a targeted premiere in late 2024 or early 2025.

While Druckmann, who also served as the creative director for the original games, has stepped back from day-to-day involvement, showrunner Craig Mazin remains at the helm. HBO’s head of programming reassured fans that the show’s vision remains intact, with Mazin working closely with Naughty Dog, the studio behind the games, to maintain authenticity.

The upcoming season is expected to adapt The Last of Us Part II, introducing new characters and expanding the post-apocalyptic narrative. Casting details and additional updates are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
