Tyrann Mathieu Announces Retirement on Eve of Saints Training Camp

Tyrann Mathieu Announces Retirement on Eve of Saints Training Camp
July 23, 2025  |  Meha

Veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu has decided to retire from the NFL just before the start of the New Orleans Saints’ training camp, sources confirmed. The three-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro leaves the game after an 11-year career that included stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Saints.

Mathieu, 31, was entering his third season with New Orleans, where he had been a key leader in the secondary. Known for his playmaking ability and versatility, he recorded four interceptions and 75 tackles last season.

Drafted in 2013 by the Cardinals, Mathieu quickly became one of the league’s most dynamic defensive backs. His career highlights include a Super Bowl LIV victory with the Chiefs and multiple All-Pro honors.

The Saints now face adjustments in their defensive backfield as they prepare for camp. Mathieu’s departure leaves a void in experience and leadership, with younger players expected to step up.

No official statement has been released by Mathieu or the Saints, but his retirement marks the end of an impactful NFL journey.
