Yarmouth Implements New Watering Schedule Following Cape Cod’s Mild Drought Declaration
July 18, 2025  |  Meha

Yarmouth, MA – Due to the recent declaration of a mild drought across Cape Cod by state officials, the Town of Yarmouth has introduced updated water use restrictions to promote conservation.

The new schedule, effective immediately, limits outdoor watering to designated days based on property address:

  1. Odd-numbered addresses: Mondays & Thursdays
  2. Even-numbered addresses: Tuesdays & Fridays

Watering is permitted only before 7:00 AM or after 7:00 PM on assigned days. Hand watering with a shut-off nozzle and drip irrigation are allowed at any time.

The restrictions come after the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) elevated Cape Cod to Level 1-Mild Drought status, citing below-average precipitation and rising seasonal demand. Officials emphasize that proactive measures can help mitigate further shortages.

Residents are encouraged to adopt water-saving practices, such as fixing leaks, using rain barrels, and prioritizing drought-resistant landscaping. Violations may result in warnings or fines.
