India train crash drivers 'distracted' by Cricket World Cup match

A fatal train crash in India was reportedly caused by train drivers watching a Cricket World Cup match, the BBC reported.

The train sped through a signal and crashed into the back of a passenger train due to the drivers being distracted by India’s Cricket World Cup campaign last October.India's railways minister said the drivers were watching the India vs England match on a phone when the train smashing into another train from behind, derailing three carriages.Both train drivers lost their lives in the crash that killed 14 people.The railway minister also said new safety systems would be installed as a result of the crash to "detect any such distraction and make sure that the pilots and the assistant pilots are fully focused on running the train".The host nation won the match the drivers were watching, beating England by 100 runs.ndia would go on to lose their home Cricket World Cup in the final against Australia by six wickets.India frequently has deadly train crashes and last year a three-train collision killed 300 people in Odisha.
